About Optoref
Optoref is a free reference for eye care professionals. It holds the things you look up between patients, and it works on a phone at the slit lamp.
What’s in it
- Lenses. Specs for currently-marketed soft lenses, plus rigid corneal, scleral, hybrid and orthokeratology designs. Filter by lens class, replacement schedule, type, material, base curve and diameter. Open any soft lens for its parameters, a fitting-guide link, and current equivalents if it has been discontinued.
- Drops. An ophthalmic drug lookup: class, mechanism, indication, usual dosing, preservative, contact-lens handling, common adverse effects, contraindications, and pregnancy notes.
- Calculators. Vertex, cylinder transposition, toric axis (LARS), GP power (SAM/FAP), keratometry, reading add, Prentice’s rule, vertical imbalance at near, visual-acuity conversion, AC/A ratio, predicted residual astigmatism, and eye-drop days of supply.
- Myopia. The management options, their trial evidence, a workup and monitoring framework, and an axial length reference.
Where the data comes from
Lens specs come from manufacturer fitting guides and package inserts. Drug entries come from public prescribing information and standard optometric references. Myopia figures are from published trials and consensus guidance (IMI, WSPOS). Each section shows the date it was last reviewed in the footer.
Limitations
- This is not medical advice and not a substitute for the current manufacturer or prescribing documentation.
- Specs, doses and figures may be wrong or out of date. Check everything against a primary source before you fit, prescribe or advise.
- Specialty (RGP, scleral, hybrid, ortho-K) entries describe design families and typical parameters. The actual lens is set per eye from the fitting set or lab software.
- Calculators are convenience tools. Sanity-check the result.
- Cost is an estimate of patient out-of-pocket for an annual supply (US retail, before insurance and rebates). It is a rough guide, not a quote. Use your own pricing.
- Optoref is independent. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any manufacturer, and trademarks belong to their owners.
