Mechanism of actionProdrug converted by intraocular hydrolases to amfenac; deep penetration to the retina/choroid, favored for diabetic macular edema prophylaxis.
Indication / reason for usePost-cataract inflammation and pain; reduction of CME risk, especially in diabetics.
Usual adult dosingNevanac TID, Ilevro once daily; start 1 day pre-op through 2-4 weeks post-op. Shake well.
PreservativeBAK 0.005%
Contact lensesRemove lenses before use.
Common / important adverse effectsCapsular opacity, foreign-body sensation, raised IOP, sticky sensation; class corneal-melt risk.
Contraindications & cautionsNSAID hypersensitivity; corneal-risk cautions as for the class; third trimester.
Pregnancy / lactationAvoid in the third trimester.
