Mechanism of actionMuscarinic antagonist; cycloplegia intermediate between cyclopentolate and atropine.
Indication / reason for useUveitis (comfort, mobilize the pupil, prevent/break synechiae); cycloplegic refraction where a longer effect than cyclopentolate is wanted.
Usual adult dosingUveitis: 1 drop of 2-5% 2-3×/day. Effects last 1-3 days.

Contact lensesRemove lenses; reinsert after 15 minutes.
Common / important adverse effectsPhotophobia, blur, anticholinergic effects (less than atropine), angle-closure risk in narrow angles.
Contraindications & cautionsUntreated narrow angles.
Pregnancy / lactationLimited data.
Practice notesA practical middle-ground cycloplegic for iritis, enough duration to keep the pupil moving, shorter hangover than atropine.
