Mechanism of action30S ribosomal binding; bactericidal; Gram-negative and staphylococcal coverage.
Indication / reason for useBacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis; fortified (higher-concentration) preparations for keratitis.
Usual adult dosing1-2 drops q4h (mild) up to q1h (severe); ointment BID-TID.
PreservativeBAK 0.01%
Contact lensesNo lens wear during infection.
Common / important adverse effectsAminoglycoside epithelial toxicity (punctate keratopathy, non-healing epithelial defects), conjunctival hyperemia, hypersensitivity.
Contraindications & cautionsAminoglycoside hypersensitivity.
Pregnancy / lactationLimited data; topical exposure low.
