Mechanism of actionPropionic-acid NSAID; COX inhibition, principally used to counter surgically induced miosis.
Indication / reason for useInhibition of intra-operative miosis during cataract surgery.
Usual adult dosing1 drop every 30 min starting 2 h before surgery (4 doses total).
PreservativeThimerosal 0.005% / PVA
Contact lensesRemove lenses before use.
Common / important adverse effectsTransient stinging, delayed wound healing, increased bleeding of ocular tissues.
Contraindications & cautionsNSAID hypersensitivity; epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (relative).
Pregnancy / lactationAvoid in the third trimester.
