Mechanism of actionFluorinated corticosteroid with relatively poor corneal penetration, modest anti-inflammatory potency, lower IOP effect than prednisolone.
Indication / reason for useMilder anterior segment / ocular surface inflammation, allergic keratoconjunctivitis, episcleritis, phlyctenular disease; useful in children and steroid responders.
Usual adult dosing1-2 drops 2-4×/day; shake well.
PreservativeBAK 0.004%
Contact lensesAvoid lens wear during active inflammation.
Common / important adverse effectsLower but real IOP-rise risk with prolonged use; cataract, infection potentiation.
Contraindications & cautionsEpithelial herpes simplex keratitis, other active viral/fungal/mycobacterial infection.
Pregnancy / lactationLimited data.
Practice notesWeaker than prednisolone, not adequate for significant uveitis.
