Mechanism of actionHalogenated NSAID with high potency and good corneal penetration; COX-1/COX-2 inhibition.
Indication / reason for usePost-operative inflammation and pain after cataract surgery; CME prophylaxis.
Usual adult dosingProlensa/BromSite 1 drop once or twice daily; start 1 day pre-op, continue ~2 weeks post-op.
PreservativeBAK; BromSite uses DuraSite delivery vehicle
Contact lensesRemove lenses before use.
Common / important adverse effectsInstillation-site irritation, headache; corneal melt risk as a class in at-risk eyes.
Contraindications & cautionsAspirin / NSAID hypersensitivity; same corneal-risk cautions as ketorolac; third-trimester pregnancy.
Pregnancy / lactationAvoid in the third trimester.
