Mechanism of actionTwo mechanisms without a beta-blocker, the go-to fixed combination when timolol is contraindicated.
Indication / reason for useOpen-angle glaucoma / ocular hypertension, especially with pulmonary or cardiac contraindications to beta-blockers.
Usual adult dosing1 drop three times daily. Shake well.
PreservativeBAK 0.003%
Contact lensesRemove lenses; reinsert after 15 minutes.
Common / important adverse effectsBlurred vision, bitter taste, ocular allergy, dry mouth, fatigue.
Contraindications & cautionsSevere renal impairment, sulfonamide allergy (brinzolamide); MAOIs, children <2 y (brimonidine).
Pregnancy / lactationAvoid.
Practice notesThree-times-daily dosing hurts adherence relative to BID combinations.
