Mechanism of actionProstamide analog; enhances both trabecular and uveoscleral outflow. Among the most potent IOP-lowering agents.
Indication / reason for useOpen-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Durary biodegradable implant provides months of IOP control from a single intracameral administration.
Usual adult dosing1 drop once daily in the evening.
PreservativeBAK 0.02% (0.01% formulation)
Contact lensesRemove lenses; reinsert after 15 minutes.
Common / important adverse effectsConjunctival hyperemia (more than latanoprost), lash growth, iris and periocular pigmentation, periorbitopathy, macular edema (caution in aphakia/pseudophakia).
Contraindications & cautionsAs for the PGA class.
Pregnancy / lactationAvoid where possible.
Practice notesHigher hyperemia rates than latanoprost can limit tolerability; the 0.03% strength was withdrawn from glaucoma use for this reason.
