Mechanism of action50S ribosomal binding; bacteriostatic; tissue-persistent, with anti-inflammatory properties useful in lid disease.
Indication / reason for useBacterial conjunctivitis; off-label for posterior blepharitis / MGD.
Usual adult dosingConjunctivitis: 1 drop BID for 2 days, then once daily for 5 days. Blepharitis (off-label): once daily then taper to intermittent.
PreservativeBAK 0.003% in DuraSite
Contact lensesNo lens wear during conjunctivitis.
Common / important adverse effectsEye irritation, blurred vision, stinging, bad taste.
Contraindications & cautionsMacrolide hypersensitivity.
